Tianjin Clapper Talk

Clapper Talk or Chinese Kuaibanr is a traditional Chinese performance style in the north China. It is popular with its free style, lively language and simple rhythm. It is a kind of rhythmic talk or monologue to the accomplishment of specially made bamboo clappers and “sanxian”, a traditional Chinese three-stringed plucked instrument. It was invented by ordinary people and originated in Tianjin in the 1950s. Tainjin clapper talks are performed in Tianjin dialect, featuring strong rhythms and tunes characteristic of “Tianjin Current Ditty.” Tianjin’s clapper talk is bold, straightforward, brisk, humorous and lively. It is enjoyed all across the country. And it becomes more and more popular; it even appeared in national performances. And sometimes the clapper talk is made part of a program, and it adds the program a lot of interests. Not only in Tianjin dialect. The clapper talk now can be talked in any dialects, but the rhythm is similar.
