The Origin of Chinese Embroidered Shoes

Chinese embroidered shoes are reputed as “Chinese shoes” as they are characteristic of Chinese culture and elements. In the Spring and Warrior States periods dating back more than 600 years, the capital of Jin was located in Shanxi Province.

In 606 BC when Jin Xiangong became the monarch, he set out to expand the territory, annexing 10 vassals masses, Jin ordered that the shoes belonging to all women in the palace should bear 10 fruit of flower pattern, including pomegranate blossoms, peach blossoms, grapes, etc. He also mandated that all civilian girls should wear the “10-fruit shoes” at their weddings so that the generations to follow would not forget his legacy.
