As one of the most important cultural activities in China France Language Year, the Chinese Kunqu Opera artistic film named A Dream in Red Mansions held the press conference in Paris Wagner’s Hall on June 19th. Many honored guests from both China and France watched the teaser of the film and the scene performance of the main performers.

This film is directed by Gong Yingtian and performed by the former staffs of the stage drama A Dream in Red Mansions. During the press conference, the elegant rhythm and beautiful tune as well as the exquisite performance of Kunqu Opera won a series of applause. The vivid character images and the exquisite scene are combined together perfectly. Just as those foreign students who come to learn Chinese language in China know, Kunqu Opera is the opera with the longest history in Chinese opera. Originated in 600 years ago, it enjoys the reputation of the ancestor of all operas.

When it came to the year of 2011, Kunqu Opera was approved by the UNESCO as the human intangible cultural heritage. After finishing watching the scene performance, Susan, the principle of construction department of UNESCO intangible cultural heritage, said to the reporters that the scene of Kunqu opera is aestheticism and the performance is impressive, greatly touching her. In her opinion, it is a method of novelty to publicize the Kunqu opera through making film.

Susan expressed that the UNESCO will continue to make efforts to support the promotion of Chinese intangible cultural heritages like Kunqu Opera will full strength. When receiving the interview of the reporters, Wang Haiping, the administration vice minister of Beijing Municipal Party Committee Propaganda Department, said that the importance of spreading forms is becoming more and more obvious. This time of spreading Kunqu Opera through film is a new trial because it is the language understood by the whole people in the world.

Therefore, we can imagine the influence of spreading Kunqu Opera though film will be larger than that of the traditional stage method. Many foreign students who learn Mandarin in China can know Kunqu through the film. It was reported that this press conference was jointly held by China’s Embassy to France, China’s Ministry of Culture and Paris Chinese Cultural Center.
