Jiulong Waterfall in Yunnan Province

The foreigners who learn Chinese in Yunnan may have heard about Jiulong River, which is the mother river of Luoping County. The Jiulong Waterfall is located at the northeastern of Luoping county seat. It is about 22 kilometers far away. There are ten main waterfalls there, making it the most famous waterfall area in this river. It is also called Dadieshui Waterfall.

There is an ancient and mysterious legend about the formation of the ten waterfalls that the students who study in China may be interested. Long time ago, the area of Luoping was an ocean. Then, nine black dragon and one white dragon came from the Lotus Pond of the Pearl River Source. In order to strive for this sea, they fought with each other fiercely.

Then, the white dragon took control of this sea but the other nine refused to obey. Therefore, they burrowed holes from different directions of the sea so that the sea water gone. Students who study Mandarin in Yunnan may know that the white one died and turned into the Baila Mountain. After a period of drought, the deity came to punished the nine dragons and the formed the waterfalls there.

The nine waterfalls are connected with shallows or pools, forming a beautiful string of bright pearls reflect the sunshine. There are also some small island in the pools and divide the water into three streams, forming three small waterfalls with the height of two meters. If students who study Chinese go there, they can also see fish in the clear water.

For the foreigners who learn Chinese in China, they should know that Yidule Waterfall is the largest and most beautiful waterfall of the ten. It is a waterfall with 56 meters in height and 114 meters in width. The surface of the waterfall is arc-shaped and there is a hole as deep as tem meters behind it. Standing on the stone, you can feel the grandeur of the waterfall.

The ethnic group live in here is Buyi people. In every February 2nd of the lunar calendar, the young people of different ethnic groups that adjacent to Guizhou and Gunagxi will gather here to sing and dance by dressing up beautiful clothes. It is a scene that students learn Mandarin in the city of Kunming should not be missed.
