Thursday night Kunming welcomed its very first heavy rain in 2013 and it didn’t stop until Friday morning. Kunming has never met such heavy rain in the past few years. We were all so grateful that we will no longer have drought in Kunming. However, on Friday morning when we woke up, we found half city was in flood, especially the northern part of the city. Most bus lines stopped operating. No car or taxi could be driven on the road. Many cars in the underground garage were in flood.
We were very lucky because the school is located in the central part of the city and the school building was not affected by the flood. Our students’ life didn’t influenced by the flood either. All people were safe. Our teachers are very responsible, because most of teachers rode bikes or scooters to school in order to start the lessons on time. Safety comes first. We then checked with each student to make sure the student is fine. Some teachers changed morning classes to the afternoon or to the weekend. Keats School offered dry towels for teachers. Then everybody started to chat about the flood. We shared about the funny stories on the way to school. The flood has become a very special experience for many students and the teachers. Watch the photos or videos we took. We were not really influenced by the flood. Our optimistic attitude made students calm down. We now work and study as usual.
Today is Sunday, the flood has already gone. It’s a sunny day today. Kunming people went out to enjoy the sunshine. Traffic is recovered. Later, all teachers and students will go to a famous Dai flavor restaurant to enjoy dinner together and celebrate the fadeaway of the flood.
