At Keats, we provide various Chinese cultural lessons such as Tai Chi and Chinese cooking. Chinese calligraphy is one of the most popular Chinese cultural lessons at Keats. No matter which country the students come from and how old they are, our students are always attracted by the magic strokes of Chinese calligraphy. Many students choose this program because the Chinese calligraphy is not that hard as many students imagine. All students in this program can take satisfied works back home when they complete the calligraphy lessons.
Amanda is one of Keats students who like Chinese calligraphy a lot. Amanda comes from America and has studied at Keats for six weeks. During the six weeks at Keats while learning Mandarin Chinese, Amanda also studies Chinese calligraphy during her spare time. She likes drawing since she was a child. Having her special comprehension of Chinese calligraphy, Amanda thinks that Chinese calligraphy works are beautiful paintings and transformations of the ancient characters. As an artist, Amanda hopes to combine the watercolor painting and Chinese calligraphy to create her own artistic works.
Amanda told us “My teacher for the Chinese calligraphy lessons is very young and energetic. She knows so much about Chinese culture in addition to Chinese cooking. She sometimes brought home-made cookies for our lessons and also shared her tips in making Chinese food. The Chinese calligraphy lessons are far beyond my expectation because we have reviewed many traditional cultural points through Chinese calligraphy while we practice different strokes. I only have positive feedbacks for my Chinese calligraphy lessons at Keats.”
Amanda shared her experience in learning the Chinese calligraphy. She suggested students who want to focus on Chinese characters take the Chinese calligraphy as well because practicing the Chinese calligraphy can help memorize the strokes of the characters. For many beginners, it is a big challenge to learn Chinese characters. Thus, many students give up on learning characters at the beginning and only focus on speaking and listening. However, to Amanda, she thinks that being able to recognize and write characters at the beginning is very important in order to lay a solid foundation in the Chinese language. This is also the top reason she chose to study Chinese calligraphy.
Nowadays in Chinese society, as many young Chinese people study and work abroad, they start to pay attention to Chinese calligraphy because that represents Chinese culture and Chinese history. Taking the Chinese calligraphy lessons at Keats can be a great choice for a relaxed and enjoyable Chinese learning experience.
