A Trip to the Bird and Flower Market

In order to help our students further experience the local Yunnan handicrafts and specials, we organized a trip to the Bird and Flower Market last weekend.

The trip was led by an experienced Keats teacher Ms. Liu, so that the students had more opportunities to practice their Chinese during the trip. It only took 15 minutes to get to the market from the school. The Bird and Flower Market has a long history and has been the most bustling market in Kunming. Many Kunming locals like to wander around the booths after dinner. In this market, you will find jewelleries, home handicrafts, pets like dogs, birds and fish, and plants.

Students showed great interest in the special handicrafts from different minority groups. Wolfgang took a lot of pictures and Pali also showed great interest.

One reason that makes Yunnan such a hot destination for many travellers is because of its diversity of minority groups. Living at Keats brings our students great convenience to learn about the local culture since the school is located in the city center. It is very easy to get around to every corner of the city. They learn Chinese at Keats during the weekdays and have the opportunity to explore the local culture during the weekend.

Students liked this short ship. Some students also bought little gifts for their family and friends.

Kunming is a great place to learn Chinese in China because not many Chinese on the street speak English. Keats has been a great school for me and a lot of other foreigners who studied in China recommended it to me. I think they are all right. The study method here is really structured. I can’t tell you how much I liked it. The thing I liked about the teachers and the teaching method is that there is so much flexibility. The other thing I liked about the teaching is the combination of classic textbook learning and going outside. I loved it! I like getting to know other students. I really enjoy this place because we have private Mandarin lessons. I took the 6-hour program, 4 hours in the morning, 2 in the afternoon. Even though it is quite a lot, the teaching is complimentary. This is very helpful because I could review what I did before and learn new things. My 2 teachers are fantastic.
