Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students Closed

The Sri Lanka zone preliminary competition of the fifth Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students was holding closing ceremony in Nelander Middle School in the capital of Sri Lanka. The competition was co-hosted by the China’s Embassy to Sri Lanka and the Confucius Class of the International Sri Lanka Lumbini Broadcast. Shen Ming, Principal of the Culture Department of the China’s Embassy to Sri Lanka, J.G. Malachi Watts, vice president of the Lumbini Broadcast Confucius Class, Sun Jiajia, Chinese principal of the Confucius Class and Chinese teachers were present at the ceremony of the awards giving. The teachers and students from five schools in Colombo came to watch the competition.

With the rapid development of China, more and more came to China to take qualified Mandarin program in China. Many Chinese teachers also came to foreign countries to teach Chinese. The communication between China and other foreign countries was becoming closer and closer. During the two-day competition, more than 50 competitors were all from the Colombo National High School. During the preliminary competition, 16 competitors did their best and had the access to the quarter-final. The quarter-final included two parts, namely keynote speech and talent show. The participants were required to express the enthusiasm and love for Chinese vividly and to display the understanding of Chinese culture through the form of dance, songs, calligraphy and painting.

Beibei and Jiana from the International Broadcast Confucius Class won the first and second place in the competition through the performance of Chinese speeches and wonderful shows. They would be the representatives of Sri Lanka who would come to China to take part in the final. The third and fourth place winners would have the chance to watch the final in China. In the awards-giving ceremony, the honored guests awarded certificates and prizes for the excellent participants. All the participants were given the Chinese learning books.

As the communication between China and other countries, more and more foreign students came to study Mandarin Chinese. The Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students provided a platform to communicate and exchange the experience of Chinese learning strategies among Chinese learners. The host of the Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students put more and more emphasis on the activity.
