When to Use 是那么回事?

Learning Chinese language is a long road to go because they need to pay more attention to the Chinese characters and also the grammar. If you attend to Chinese school to study Mandarin, teachers will show you how to remember Chinese characters and tell apart the differences between words. However, since the purpose of your study in to communicate with Chinese people, you need to learn some useful and frequently uses Chinese oral expressions. The followings are several important that you should know.

The first one is the patter 是A就B, which is to indicate there is no exception within a certain range. The meaning of this expression is equal to “if A exists, then B will take place”. Of course, the learners should also know A is a noun while B is a verb or verbal phrase. For example, 他是个电影迷,不管什么内容,是电影就看.

When you car talking with people, you need to say something to indicate you are listening or express your opinions. In this case, 是那么回事might be helpful which is used to fully agree the other party’s opinions or suggestions. Sometimes it refers to the fact that what somebody said is true. For instance, 他说他昨天不舒服才没来上课,其实根本不是那么回事,有人在游戏厅看见他了. Sometimes, it can also be 是这么回事.

When mentioning 是这么回事, the teachers in intensive Mandarin course in China may tell you that it can also be applied to explain the reason or process of something to the others. In addition, it can be sued to show that somebody understand the true fact all of a sudden after others explained, which often appears like 噢,原来是这么回事.

The last but not least expression will be explained is 恕不奉陪 which is often applied to show apology for not being able to stay with the other party. Sometimes it shows that the speaker does not want to do something together with the other party. You can make sentence like 明天的参观让小李带你们去吧,我还有个约会,恕不奉陪.
