Lesson 24 – Intermediate – How to Use 偏偏 ?

In Chinese language, the simple words might be very important grammar points in the language system, without which you will feel it is hard to communicate and express the complete meaning you intend to say. Let’s take 偏偏as an example, which is an adverb to indicate certain situation which is unexpected to appear but appear finally. It shows some the negative attitude of people to the things happened. the word 偏偏 can be placed before the subject. You can make sentences like 我请他吃四川菜,没想到他偏偏不能吃辣的.

再说is also frequently used in daily conversations with your Chinese friends like 时间不早了,再说你身体也不舒服,早点休息吧. From this sentence, some students who have come to China to learn Mandarin for a long time should know 再说is a conjunction to connect the former part and supplement another reason or excuse to explain something. Therefore, the part after 再说is also an important reason if you see it in reading materials or books. For instance, 去年夏天不太热,再说我的房间在阴面,所以我没有买空调.

Another important structure that the overseas students need to master is “…, 难免…”, in which 难免is an adjective to indicate the negative results in the former part can’t be avoidable because of the reason mentioned in the former part. For example, 他刚来中国,难免不了解这里的情况, carrying the meaning that he knows little about China since he comes to China not long. That is to say, the word 难免has the function of connecting the reason and result.

For those who just begin to learn to speak Chinese, the pattern 从…来看 is often used like 从表面上来看,他们的关系很好,实际上却充满矛盾. From this example, you can see that the structure has the similar meaning with ” from the perspective of ” in English. Usually, there is a conclusion summarized after it. Therefore, when you analyze certain issues, you can use this expression.
