Aiming at further carrying forward the Twelve Muqam music in Xinjiang, the Xinjiang Twelve Muqam Symphony Concert which sponsored jointly by the artistic department of the Ministry of Culture and the cultural department of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region was held in the National Grand Theater in Beijing just several days ago. Just as some of the students who come to study in China know, the Muqam art was born in Xinjiang Uygur people gathering place in China and the Central Asia area. It is a kind of artistic form with the combination of song, dance and music together.
As one of the most precious artistic treasures in Chinese civilization, the Twelve Muqam music wins the reputation of the essence of the Uygur folk music art. It is reported that the music concert was performed with the joint efforts of the National Symphony Orchestra, Xinjiang Art Theater Folk Music Group as well as Xinjiang Muqam Art Troupe. In order to show the pure music with obvious local characteristics to the biggest degree, the Xinjiang characteristic ethnic musical instrument performance and the chorus part were undertaken by the artistic groups from Xinjiang.
The total seven programs presented are all created on the basis of the Xinjiang Uygur Twelve Muqam music materials. With the application of the professional creation techniques, the essence of the Twelve Muqam art is concentrated and presented in the works, wining a series of applause from the audiences. Since the year of 2010, the artistic department of the Ministry of Culture and the cultural department of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have begun to prepare for the original creation music concert with the music materials of the Twelve Muqam Music and with the expression form of symphony music creation method.
For the purpose of holding it smoothly, the Ministry of Culture not only solved the problem of the funds for creating and arranging the concert but also especially organized the music experts as well as the scholars of Muqam art to discuss and named the list of creating the music. A piece of news comes from some students who study in Mandarin language courses in China that the materials collecting work was processed from August of 2010 and the creation stage began with the year of 2011. Much importance was attached to this concert because the folk music is important means of inheriting Chinese traditional culture and carrying forward the spirit of the times.
