Born in 1947 in Shanghai, Chen Zuohuang is a famous music commander in China. He was graduated from the Piano School of the Central Conservatory of Music in the year of 1965. When it came to 1981, he went to the United States Tanglewood Music Center and the music school of University of Michigan for further study. Just one year later, he won the Master’s Degree of music and was elected as the honorable member of Music Teachers National Association. In the year of 1985, he won the first band commander music Master’s Degree awarded by the University of Michigan, becoming the first one Doctor of music art in China.

From 1985 to 1987, Chen Zuohuang acted as the associate professor in the Art School of the University of Kansas in the United States and also held the post of the commander of the art school. In 1987, he became the chief commander of Chinese Symphony Orchestra and then led Chinese Symphony Orchestra to hold the large itinerant performance in 24 cities in the United States, achieving great success. After that, Chen also organized the Chinese Youth Symphony Orchestra and Chinese Juvenile Symphony Orchestra to pay visit performances to many countries in European and Asia and also other regions for six times.

Since 1990, Chen Zuohuang took the post of music chief inspector and commander in Weiqieta Symphony Orchestra in the United States. Some of the foreign students who attend to Chinese school to study Mandarin might be told that he ever hold a concurrent post as the chief music inspector and commander of Rhoda Island Philharmonic Orchestra, wining the Artistic Awards of Kansas state and Rhoda Island.

In recent years, Chen was invited to perform in more than 20 countries and regions, ever acted as the guest commander of many symphony orchestras such as those in Zurich, Vancouver, Hungary, Germany, Russia and Slovakia. The commander art of Chen Zuohuang wins widely praise of the audiences and critics. Therefore, he was honored as a musician with great talent.
