Making Use of Practical Situations and the Mistakes in Studying Chinese

In the process of teaching Chinese in classroom, some unexpected things may often happen. In this case, teachers in Mandarin learning courses should deal with them properly. In fact, there are three techniques to deal with such situations. There are three aspects in the first method that the teachers can do to handle problems properly.

For some unexpected conditions, teachers can deal with them without criticizing and blaming, but a sober attitude. Secondly, students may become noisy when they find teachers make mistakes in Chinese language school. Teachers should accept their mistakes because of their carelessness so that teachers can back to the teaching naturally. For some serious things, teachers should stop them and criticize the students.

Secondly, teachers can make use of the practical situations so that the unexpected can also serve for the classroom teaching. The things happened in teaching process is unpredictable for teachers. However, once it happens, teachers should observe calmly and analyze the influence to the teaching and make use of it to help learners who study in China.

Here is a practical example. When all learners are concentrating on the discussion, a foreign student takes out one simulation snake put it into the crowd. All of the students who learn Mandarin are scared. They feel relax when they realize it is a fake snake. If teachers are lecturing the structure “像…一样”, they can say “他今天拿的蛇像真的一样”. Students will remember this structure firmly.

In addition, it is unavoidable for teachers to make some mistakes in the teaching process. They can be oral language mistakes or spoken language mistakes. For some experienced teachers, they will make use of the mistakes according to the seriousness of the mistakes so that they can get rid of the embarrassment as well as help students study Chinese.

For example, teachers may make mistakes on the order of the strokes when they write the character “睡”. When teachers realize that, the experienced ones may not be in panic. They will naturally ask the students whether they write it correctly. Of course, if students who learn Chinese in China realize this mistake, teachers can ask them to write the right one down.

In a word, the things happen in classroom are unpredictable. The only thing teachers should do is to be flexible by using all kinds of methods. The three mentioned above are helpful for teachers.
