Lesson 15 – Elementary – Learning Simple Dialogues in Chinese

If the foreign students just start to study Mandarin Chinese, they should learn some basic words and expressions often used in the daily talk. The following dialogue is a typical example that shows how Chinese people greet when they meet each other.

A:欢迎,欢迎。请进。
B:你好。
A:你好。你身体好吗?
B:很好,谢谢。你呢?
A:我也很好。请坐,请喝茶。
B:好,谢谢。
A:你爸爸、妈妈好吗?
B:他们都很好,谢谢。

The dialogue above is what people often say when they pay a visit to the house. Most of the words and expressions are applied to greet each other. However, if foreign students want to learn how to introduce someone else and say goodbye during the period when they learn Mandarin Chinese, the following dialogue can be used as a reference.

A:这是我妹妹。
B:你好。
C:你好。欢迎你。
B:谢谢。
C:请坐吧。哥哥,我去朋友家。
A:好。
C:再见。
B:再见。

In order to help the foreigners understand the dialogue exactly and read correctly when they learn Chinese, the following three new words with Pinyin and meanings are provided. The pronunciation of 身体、家and都is respectively shēn tǐ, jiā, dōu, meaning body, family and all.

After reading the dialogue, you need to do some practice to test whether you understand as well as consolidate the words you just learned. Several Pinyin are given as follows and you need to write out the Chinese characters according to them. qǐnɡ jìn, hē chá, huān yínɡ, qǐnɡ zuò, pénɡ you, zài jiàn. After recalling and referring the text, you will find the words for them: 请进,喝茶, 欢迎,请坐,朋友,再见.

Of course, we can also practice by providing characters and students should give the Pinyin of them. The words in the dialogues are 爸爸、妈妈、哥哥、妹妹、欢迎、请坐、喝茶. And the Pinyin should be respectively bà bɑ, mā mɑ, ɡē ɡe, mèi mei, huān yínɡ, qǐnɡ zuò, hē chá.
