How to Use 别提了 in Daily Life ?

Nowadays, more foreign students start to study Mandarin language for the purpose of finding a good opportunity in China. Usually, they often attend to HSK preparation program in China but teachers may pay much attention to the explanation of words and some grammar points. If you want to communicate with Chinese people fluently, you need to learn some oral expressions frequently used in daily conversations.

For example, when people say 别提了, they usually mean to show that the speaker is not willing to talk more when the other party asks some cases that the speaker feels terrible. Sometimes, it indicates it has reached the highest degree and it is not necessary to give more explanation. For instance, A:你那边天气怎么样?B:别提了,这几天不是刮风就是下雨.

When it is used to express that something has reached the highest degree, you should also know another similar expression 别提多…了. The collocated words are usually adjectives or verbs to describe psychological activities, carrying the tone of exclamation. Accordingly, you can make sentence like 看到大家都这样热心地帮助他,他别提多感动了.

In addition, the oral expression 别往心里去is also frequently spoken by the foreign students who got internships in China to try to persuade somebody not to pay much attention to something that is not pleasing. For example, 他对人还是挺热心的,就是有时候说话太直,你别往心里去. It carries the tone of comfort or persuasion.

When you hear Chinese friends say 别这么说 to you, you should know what you have said is not proper for the other side. This expression is applied to regard what the other party said inappropriate. Usually, it is to show politeness when the other party apologizes or extends gratitude and sometimes to stop or warn. You can say 别这么说,朋友之间,不用这么客气. On the contrary, if you mean the speaker has to do so, we usually use 不…不行啊 carrying the tone of having no choice but to do it like 作业不做不行啊.
