Discover Jiangsu 2012 Culture Week in London

The opening ceremony of Discover Jiangsu 2012 Culture Week was held in Westminster Central Hall in London. The theme of the Culture Week was to present the culture of Jiangsu to the foreign friends. Officers from the International Olympic Committee, General Administration of Sport of China, the provincial government of Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee, Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee and the Liu Xiaoming, China’s Ambassador to Britain Ambassador were present at the opening ceremony. Many celebrities from different circlers of Britain attended the ceremony as well. The Culture Week included three theme exhibitions and an art performance.

The Jingling 2012 Paintings Exhibition of China was held in the Westminster Central Hall. The show exhibited more than 60 pieces of traditional Chinese paintings and oil paintings which reflected the societal progress, the landscape of urban and rural areas, the natural sceneries and the life of the public. The various themes of the paintings stressed the real reflection and nature of Jiangsu. As many foreign students in summer program in China knew that Jiangsu was a beautiful land flowing with milk and honey. The sceneries in the province were charming and many people liked to go there for traveling.

The theme presentation exhibition whose name was Nanjing Meets London was held in the Westminster Central Hall as well. The exhibition presented the common points between Nanjing and London by the presentation of pictures and articles. The two cities had long history and they each had the Qinhuai River and the Thames. The world intangible cultural heritages from Jiangsu were presented at the exhibition which played as the platform to popularize the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games. The treasures of China exhibited in Nanjing Museum were displayed in Colchester Museum in Essex. 70 pieces of cultural relics like the Chinese jade, bronze wares and porcelain were exhibited on the show.

Cao Weixing, vice governor of Jiangsu Province, said that the Culture Week was to boos the cultural exchange between China and London. He said more and more foreigners came to study in China with the communication between China and London. The Culture Week aimed at opening a window to make the foreign friends know more about the culture in Jiangsu province. It was reported that the exhibition of Discover Jiangsu 2012 Culture Week had been held successfully in other cities.
