Contentment brings happiness

This popular Chinese saying means that those who hope to keep fit and happy should have few desires and the fewer the better. If one has overly strong desires and always keeps daydreaming, then one would not in a practical manner. Their endless desires would only drive them into even greater restlessness and anguish. In Chinese lives, contentment finds its concrete expression in 3 ways: compassion, frugality and humility. To have one’s house filled with gold and jade and live a luxurious life does not bring satisfaction and feelings of happiness. A person who has an excessive desire to accumulate wealth has a level of spiritual enjoyment far below that of those who are content with what they have. Only a contented person can enjoy peace of mind, and only a person who knows the limits will avoid going to extremes.
