A piece of news comes from teachers in Mandarin learning courses that on the afternoon of November 25, the “Confucius Classroom” from the Pakistani Broadcasting, which is made by China Radio International, has held a “Chinese culture” joint performance in Sino- Pakistan Friendship Center. The theme of the performance is “comprehensively promoting Chinese teaching and Chinese culture, and celebrating the Sino- Pakistan year of friendship”. There were about 1000 people being present at the joint performance
Many shows were presented at the joint performance, such as the dance named “Sino –Pakistan Soldiers’ friendship song” showed by Pakistan young boys and girls, Chinese Tang Fashion Show made by Pakistan young kids, the Chinese singing “the Jasmine” and Peking opera and Chinese lion dancing and Taiji. Students learn Mandarin in China may be told that the Pakistan International Art Committee had also showed some documentaries about China and Chinese people with multimedia facilities.
The whole center was just like a sea of joy. The journalists had also made some interviews on some famous people that foreigners may know when they learn Chinese in China. such as Faisal, the pioneer of Chinese teaching in Brazil, Hussein, the director of the Institute of Chinese studies in Pakistan, Liu Jian, the China’s ambassador to Pakistan, and Miss Awans, the Minister of Pakistan News and Radio Center.
Mr. Faisal showed that the former Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping once said” Everything should be trained from children”. He also added that the promoting of Chinese teaching should be done from the following aspects. The first thing learners who study in China should know is to increase the teaching places of Chinese language by local educational network, which means local Pakistan students can not only learn from the Confucius Classroom, but also learn from the Chinese excellent teachers.
The second thing is to combine teaching with lively activities. Only the classroom teaching is not enough. Teachers in Chinese language school may tell you that the third is to focus on the transmission of Chinese culture to strengthen young children’s love and passion for China and Chinese culture, which include the ancient Chinese architecture, Chinese cuisine, Chinese Kung Fu, traditional and modern Chinese music, and the Chinese man-made satellites and spaceships.
Moreover, the showing of Chinese documentaries is also important. Those documentaries have not only showed about the traditional Chinese culture, but also added more recent news about China to assist the understanding of China and Chinese society. Finally, we should focus on the education of young kids in Pakistan. At present, a total number of 1500 children go to school to study Mandarin in Pakistan.
Hussein said the best part of the Chinese Confucius Classroom was that the program did not cost any money from the local Pakistani government. The only thing that was needed in the program is radio waves to teach Mandarin language. The Ambassador Liu Jian emphasized that the relationship of two countries came from the friendship of local people in both countries, and the friendship of local people in both countries came from the mutual communication.
There are many foreigners in Mandarin language courses in China wonder the reason why the Chinese Confucius Classroom became such a great success. Teachers would tell you the reason is that it promoted the communication of citizens from both China and Pakistan. Awans, the Minister of the Pakistan News and Radio, showed that the Chinese Confucius Classroom would be of great help for promoting the Chinese learning and cultural exchange for people both in China and Pakistan.
Reporters also knew that since the establishing of the Chinese Confucius Classroom, more and more Pakistani children had learnt to study Chinese with the help of their parents. For some of foreigners who learn Chinese in Yunnan, they may have heard about the two famous universities in Pakistan. They are the Sindh University and the Peshawar University. Many reporters have gone there to interview and found that many Chinese language teachers are needed to be sent to there to open the Confucius Classroom. They also found that there are some children there can have a conversation with the reporters.
As so many Confucius Classrooms are needed in Pakistan, we should try our best to build more to help them learn Chinese language, thus promoting Chinese language and gaining the communication between us.
