“China’s Cup” International Chess Competition Held in Berlin

On April 14th and 15th, the third session Berlin “China’s Cup” International Chess Competition was held in Berlin’s Chinese Cultural Center. There were a total of 65 amateur players from different countries participated in this competition. Just as some of the foreign students who study in Chinese language class in China know, this chess competition was jointly held by Berlin’s Chinese Cultural Center and Berlin Chess Association. For so many years, Berlin Chess Association has done a lot of work in promoting Chinese chess and has great influence in Berlin area and even the whole Germany.

Since Berlin’s Chinese Cultural Center and Berlin Chess Association jointed together to promote Chinese chess, a variety of Chinese chess learning classes are held in the cultural center. As a result, more and more German people are interested in Chinese chess. At present, the Berlin “China’s Cup” International Chess Competition which has been held for three sessions has become the brand project of Chinese Cultural Center in Berlin.

In the first competition held in 2010, the Chinese cultural center invited many famous Chinese chess master to provide the on-the-site guidance. Just like the previous competitions, this session of chess competition is alive online and famous masters are invited. Some of the students who learn Chinese online free may think this session of competition is interesting because it has not only the top three prizes, but also adds some interesting prizes such as the oldest and youngest players and the player comes from the farthest place.

Of course, the players who won the consolation prize got the gifts such as Chinese folding fans and chess theme pokers as commemorative prize. After match, the players and audiences from different countries went to Chinese cultural center for the awarding ceremony. The medal presenters are Jia Jianxin, the director of Berlin’s Chinese Cultural Center and the deputy director Chen Jianyang as well as Shen Kaiyun, the vice presidents of Literary and Art Association of Tibet Autonomous Region.

In addition, the players and audiences were so lucky to see the special gift from Chinese Chess Association displayed in Chinese Cultural Center, that is the chessboard with the signature of famous chess masters Nie Weiping, Ma Xiaochun and Chen Zuze, which the students who study in Mandarin Language Class in China may know if they are interested in Chinese chess. Many players hoped the chess competition will be held better year by year.
