Beautiful Ganlan Ba in Xishuang Banna

Ganlan Ba is also called Meng Han in dialect of Dai people. The meaning of Han is to roll something. Some students who study in Mandarin learning courses are discussing that the name of Meng Han came from an ancient legend. It was said that the Buddha Sakyamuni ever lectured here. And the believers used the cotton cloth cover on the ground for the Buddha to walk across. Then they rolled the cloth after the Buddha walked past. Therefore, people named there with the name Meng Han.

As the lowest point in Xishuang Banna, the altitude of Ganlan Ba is only 530 meters. It is also the place with the hottest climate which brings there abundant products. There are a wide range of tropical fruits there. Except for the freh fruits, a large number of preserved fruits are also produced. Therefore, you can see the markets for selling fresh fruits and preserved fruits everywhere in Ganlan Ba, making it a perfect place to go for those who love the tropical fruits.

With a natural, pure and quiet environment, the beautiful Ganlan Ba has the elegant name of Feathers of Peacock and Tail of the Green Peacock. Peacock is an auspicious animal for Dai people in Xishuang Banna. Therefore, people there compare Ganlan Ba as the peacock who that spreads its fine tail feathers. The Dai villages that you see when you learn Chinese in Yunnan should be the bright spots decorated on the peacock’s tail.

There are two large villages in Ganlan Ba, namely, the Mansongman Village and Manting Village. The former one is the so-called the village of garden while the latter is the village of fruits. Another attracting point is that you can see the typical Buddhism temples and traditional bamboo building of Dai people no matter what village you step into. The villages are surrounded by the cassia siamea trees, a special tree that the more you cut the more it grows. Dai people pay much attention to the environment protection. Therefore, they plant such tree as the burn wood to protect the local forest resource.

Many literature works, films and televisions that reflect the life of educated youth in Xishuang Banna are based on the historical and geographical background of Ganlan Ba.
