If the students just learned the kinship table, they may be confused by the complex person and relationship. We can take the advantage of this topic to train their spoken language at the same time remember the kinship address. In Chinese school in China, students are divided into two groups. One student pick one address of the kinship for example “姑父”. Then another student asks a series of questions until the answer is found.

In this game, the students being asked can answer only “是” or “不是” because it will increases many more questions to practice spoken language. Teachers in qualified Mandarin program can take an example before the game. The questions can be as follows: “男的?父母家庭之外的?与你同辈?与你父母同辈?姨父?”.

Here is another interesting game for practicing spoken Chinese. After teaching a Chinese song, teachers can write some important teaching points in the notes and put them into a plastic bag. When students who learn Mandarin in China, they sit in circle and pass the bag to another when singing the song. One student closes the eyes and sits in the middle, beating time regularly. At the time of a heavy beat, the one has the bag should pick one piece of paper to answer the questions attached.

This game is similar with the game named “击鼓传花(beating drums when passing the colorful ball)” in Chinese culture. In order to gain the interestingness of the game, teachers can change the contents as singing a song, telling a joke and doing a specific pose and so on. It would be better if teachers can join in it.

The following game is helpful to train students’ ability of listening, memorizing and retelling when they learn Mandarin. When students are divided into two groups, each group stands in a line. According to students’ language level and the teaching contents, teachers will tell a sentence to the first student of each group. Then they should retell the sentence in whisper to another student, and pass on like this. The last students should write the sentence he heard in the paper and give the teacher.

Then teacher should read the two sentences as well as the original one to see which group did correctly and rapidly. If necessary, they can discuss why and where they make the mistakes. Students who learn Chinese language in China have different language levels, so teachers should choose the sentences of different difficulty levels.

“Do as I say” is a very interesting game to train students to react and respond rapidly when they learn to speak Chinese. Firstly, teachers select some vivid and typical words from the lesson like “书” and “本子”, then students should react quickly. For example, if the teacher says “鼻子”, student should point his nose. If teacher says “打球”, student should acts the pose of playing balls.

For this game, teachers can also demand students expand the word into a simple sentence. For instance, to enlarge “打球” into “我打球”. This is helpful for students study in China to improve their language skill. To those who do the actions by following the message, if teachers properly point out the wrongly acted poses may arouse much laughter.

When the summer vacation or winter vacation is coming, teachers can ask students to make a plan for traveling by train. Teachers provide a map of China for students to make their schedule by discussing. The aim of this game is to train students who study Chinese in China to understand the map of Chine’s transportation and the train schedule. More importantly, put the knowledge into practical use.
