After classes last week, our teachers went to a famous restaurant opposite Keats school. And so began an evening of fun and enjoyment. After a hard month’s work, the school wanted to reward its teachers with this night out, and so spent a good amount of time preparing a night out for the teachers.
Upon arriving at the VIP room of the restaurant, an appetizing feast was already laid out on two traditional Chinese circular tables, welcoming us. The room and all the dishes, which had been selected by the teachers three days earlier, had been most graciously prepared. There were many famous dishes, some being very spicy, including fish dishes, sweet and sour shrimp, stir fried beef, and lotus root.
Teachers gaily chatted while enjoying the delicious food, and after an hour or so, we all headed back to our school for some after-dinner activities. We were all amazed that a great variety of snacks and beverages had been set out for us, and we settled back to enjoy an evening filled with games and fun activities.
But first, was an informal meeting where the more experienced teachers happily shared some useful teaching methods and classroom exercises for the benefit of all the other teachers. This type of “sharing” enhances both communication between and among teachers, old and new, as well as increasing the effectiveness of their teaching skills.
With that finished, the teachers drew lots to form four teams and partook of friendly singing competitions. They had a lot of fun and really enjoyed the Friday’s night.
