There are many ways to learn Chinese. In addition to the textbooks, watching movies, listening to music, listening to broadcast, and using mobile apps can also be efficient ways to learn Mandarin Chinese. In 2004 when Keats School was established, we incorporated diverse teaching methods to help the students learn Chinese fast and efficiently.
This week, Ms. Zhao of Keats School arranged an outdoor lesson for her student. The outdoor lesson was to watch a movie. Tasks to help the students learn Chinese were distributed to the students before the movie started. The movie was a popular Chinese movie that was freshly screened last week.
Sukun from Singapore was very excited about this movie watching lesson. This was his first time to watch a movie in China and he was confident that he could complete the tasks well.
After Sukun took the movie watching lesson, he shared his experience with the teachers and students at Keats. Sukun liked the movie a lot. If some students had not watched that movie yet, he would actively recommend the movie to other students. If some students watched the movie, he would talk about the interesting plots with them. Sukun told us that this was a very interesting experience to him. He couldn’t believe that he could already understand 80% of the dialogues. He also thanked his teacher who chose a perfect movie with wonderful music for him.
