Kunming on upea kaupunki. Sää täällä on mahtava. Koulu on erinomainen. Opettajat ovat erittäin avuliaita ja ystävällisiä. Suosittelen lämpimästi kaikille, jotka etsivät kiinan kielen koulua Kiinassa, tulemaan tänne opiskelemaan. Kunming ja Keatsin koulu ovat paljon parempia kuin mikään muu paikka.
Nimeni on Sarah Fish. Olen 81-vuotias. Osasin hyvin vähän kiinaa saapuessani. Miten selviäisin kahdesta viikosta intensiivistä kiinan kielen kurssista? Minun on pakko nauraa, kun ajattelen sitä nyt. Päivittäinen kuunteleminen ja puhuminen luokkahuoneessa on parantanut kommunikointitaitojani. Kolmen viikon kuluttua uudet sanani ja lauseeni tulivat yhä luonnollisemmiksi ja sujuvammiksi. Nyt olen tottunut ajattelemaan kiinaksi ja ymmärrän paremmin, mitä muut ihmiset sanovat, jotta voin käydä oikeita keskusteluja muiden ihmisten kanssa.
He todella välittävät kiinnostuksen kohteistamme, kysymyksistämme ja vaatimuksistamme. Sitten he mukauttavat kiinan kielen opetussisältöämme tilanteen mukaan. Yksi opettaja ja yksi oppilas, joten on helppo keskittyä kuuden tunnin mandariinikiinan syventävien oppituntien aikana. On erittäin kätevää opiskella, asua ja syödä samassa rakennuksessa.
Koulun parasta antia oli ohjaajien kärsivällisyys ja aika keskittyä perusasioihin, kuten ääntämiseen. Mielestäni on erittäin helppo ohittaa ne ja siirtyä sanastoon. Mutta ääntämisen oppiminen on mielestäni auttanut minua ymmärtämään kieltä paremmin.
Ensimmäisen viikkoni aikana Keatsissa en uskaltanut lausua sanaakaan kiinaa. Huomasin, että kiinan kielen taitoni parani nopeasti siitä lähtien. Vaikka minulla on monia vaihtoehtoja opiskella Kiinassa, esimerkiksi jotkut muut koulut tarjoavat majoitusta perhemajoituksessa, huomasin, että pystyin uppoutumaan ja keskittymään täysin kiinan kielen oppimiseen Keatsissa asumalla.
