As a prestigious Mandarin Chinese language school in China, Keats stands out from other schools through its excellent teaching quality and high rate of returning students. Last Friday, Keats president Joy and vice president Margie went to the Oxbridge College, Kunming University of Science and Technology because they were invited by the Director of the School of Foreign Languages to give a lecture to their students in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language.
Many university students and post graduates of TCFL are so proud to be Keats teachers as Keats is a dream working place for many TCFL graduates. They are encouraged to do internship in their senior years after three years of classroom theoretical study in their universities. If they can pass Keats’ interview, they will received a more practical and rigorous training at Keats. After the systematic training at Keats, a qualified teacher is eligible go inside Keats’ classrooms to teach our students.
This time two teachers from Keats were glad to give them a practical lecture about teaching Chinese. Joy introduced Keats School’s history for them and then Margie showed current situation and tendency of Chinese teaching. The two teachers used many data and pictures to make the lecture more interesting. The audience listened carefully to the lecture. After the introduction, the audience knew much better about the official organizations like Hanban Office, Confucius Institute, and HSK exam.
In order to help the audience analyze their ability of Chinese knowledge and teaching ability, Joy prepared several quizzes for them. After doing those quizzes, the audience noticed that there was still a long way to go before they became an excellent teacher. In the end, Joy and Margie gave them many suggestions like how to be a good Chinese teacher, what reference books they need to read and what they can do after graduation.
The lecture ended in the storm of the student’s applause. Many students showed that the lecture was very useful and practical for them and they had a better understanding about TCFL. They appreciated two teachers’ effort and the wonderful lecture. They hope they could be one of Keats teachers in the future.
